From this article about the Mac mini Salon.com Technology | Letters:

I’d happily buy an Apple machine if I could get a huge range of software at Staples for cheap (I can’t), if I could choose from buckets of hardware for a few bucks that I could pop in (I can’t), if it used the software and hardware I already paid for (it doesn’t), if it worked like the computers everybody else uses so we could work together (it doesn’t), if I wouldn’t have to pay for every minor upgrade (I would), if the company weren’t so secretive (it is), if I could expect my software to continue running from version to version as most Windows software does (it doesn’t), if I or one of my friends could get parts to fix it (we can’t), and most important, if there were some competition that would break Apple’s megalomaniacal mini-monopoly and I could comparison-shop Apple clones from different manufacturers (I can’t).

Why is it a good thing that you can fish through a bucket of crappy software at the local Staples store? What about all of the great apps that you can download from the ‘net? Why is a bucket of s*&t at Staples the benchmark for a good computer/operating system?

Oh well, Windows still sucks (read spyware/spybots/spambots/malware et al)!

So long good friend – NHL is done for the year

It’s too bad that the sides could have either prevented this disaster before it happened, or atleast come to a reasonable agreement. From an article in the SJ Mercury News:

T is for TV ratings. A very bad sign when ESPN2’s substitute programming — think poker — doubles last season’s NHL viewership.

That will about sum up the thing the player’s don’t want to hear….

Oh well, back to CBS, for more of Survivior and Amazing Race….

Genuis at MnDOT

Filed under: General, News — Eric Wisti @ 17:58

According to this press release: MnDOT Press Release, the $400,000 cost of providing live, accurate traffic reports and continuous coverage during serve incidents, is not worth the cost.

They say that the motorist can buy satellite radio or use any other radio station’s traffic broadcast. The KBEM reports are generally current and accurate. The other reports I have heard are neither. I have been at the area that they report as a crash and the area is completely cleared.

Contact Kevin Gutknecht (651) 284-0515 with your concerns. I, for one, believe this is one of the many things that the state used to right, to help motorists get around the metro area.

Thanks for the 15 years of service KBEM FM. I’ll miss the acurate and timely reports.

MacSlash | Apple/Motorola Announce Cellphone Partnership

Seems to be a good thing, since Motorola phones could use a bit more synergy with the Macintosh platform, like iSync via bluetooth.
