Minnesota Wild lose first in shootout

The Minnesota Wild, lost their first game last night in Los Angeles. Brent Burns had 5 minors in the game ( game summary). The Wild played a run and gun game, trading goals with the Kings for most of the night and didn’t have the control they’ve shown in the first five games, which included a win over the Stanley Cup champ ducks.

Off to St Louis, for a game with the Blues on Saturday night.

Some things will never change…

Filed under: Sports — Eric Wisti @ 22:26

Good to see the NHL is back for another season, but the refs still can’t quite call it even… A couple of smacks on the Wild players noses with Detroit sticks doesn’t get called, but Boogard gets called for a 5 minute interference and a match penalty on a questionable check. (see NHL Official Scoresheet)

Oh well, at least I get to see hockey again…. ;)

So long good friend – NHL is done for the year

Filed under: General, News, Sports — Eric Wisti @ 17:54

It’s too bad that the sides could have either prevented this disaster before it happened, or atleast come to a reasonable agreement. From an article in the SJ Mercury News:

T is for TV ratings. A very bad sign when ESPN2’s substitute programming — think poker — doubles last season’s NHL viewership.

That will about sum up the thing the player’s don’t want to hear….

Oh well, back to CBS, for more of Survivior and Amazing Race….

Great Quote

From ESPN.com: Page 2 – Basking in the NFL drama By Bill Simmons

Funniest Phone Call: My Mom
She called me during the weekend to ask why Randy Johnson was called “The Big Unit,” saying, “I don’t get it; why would somebody be nicknamed after the size of their penis? Why is this allowed? I’m not going to be able to watch him pitch now, I’m going to be frightened that something will fly out.” When I responded that it was just a nickname and probably had nothing to do with his locker room prowess, she said, “Well, why would you want a nickname that makes you sound like a penis? Who would do that to themselves?”

(You know it’s a good weekend when you get to hear your mom say the word “penis” two times without wanting to light yourself on fire.)

Packers don’t; Vikings do…. And Randy is totally classless….

Filed under: Sports — Eric Wisti @ 21:27

This meeting, the Vikings went to Lambeau Field and did what they couldn’t either home or road in the regular season. Get a win with 31 points.

After his second touchdown, Randy Moss gave the nation a show of what he’s all about. A very talented player with absolutely no class and no clue about the way a professional and adult should act. Unfortunately, Minnesota Vikings management feels that the correct way to deal with a star that can’t act professional, is to look the other way. Nice message for the kids out there. Act irresponsibly as long as you can play better than the next guy.

Vikings deserved the win. They took advantage of the Packers mistakes, and the Packers couldn’t get back from an early 17-0 deficit. Green Bay had a good season overall, but the defense needs a big overhaul. After their 1-4 start, they went 9-2. Minnesota won’t far quite as well next week more than likely. Even without TO, Philly won’t grant the Vikings the gifts that Green Bay did.

Oh well, go Vikes next week. Give the NFC North a good showing. Wait ’til next year….

Viking still don’t, but do anyway…

Filed under: Sports — Eric Wisti @ 06:31

Minnesota lost yesterday, but still made the playoffs, along with St Louis. Carolina didn’t win, and they’re out. Minnesota travels to Green Bay on Sunday (3:35pm CST) to play the Packers for the third time this season. Teams that are 2-0 in regular season play, are 10-5 in the third game. Go Packers!!

Vikings still don’t

Filed under: Sports — Eric Wisti @ 13:00

Well, Minnesota is hoping to get into the playoffs with either their win versus Washington or help from a loss or tie by either St Louis or Carolina.

Minnesota is feeling a bit under the weather with 10 or more player suffering from the effects of the flu. Randy Moss could be the backup QB on Sunday!! Go back to December 12th if you need a reason to be afraid of that!

Packers do!!! Vikings don’t…. ;)

Filed under: Sports — Eric Wisti @ 10:54

Well, the much criticized Christmas Eve game has come and gone, with the Packers victorious in both games against the Vikings this year. It’s the first time in four seasons that Minnesota and Green Bay haven’t split the series.

Both games ended with the Packers winning 34-31 on a last second field goal, 858 total yards combined in the first game and 868 total yards yesterday. Packers went 2-2 on 4th and goal yesterday. Each team had success on kick returns: GB with 5 for 150 yards and MN with 5 for 152. Punt returns were not big: GB 1 for 7 yards and MN 3 for 3 yards.

All in all, a good game, but neither team can really brag about their defense.

Minnesota must either win in week 17 or get help from St Louis or Carolina this weekend to be a wild card team. Either team loses or ties, Minnesota will be in.

Have a safe and happy holiday.

Viking do; Packers don’t

Filed under: Sports — Eric Wisti @ 12:40

Well, the Vikings were able to deal with the Lions, until the end of the game and avoided OT with the botched snap to the holder on the PAT that would have tied the game and mostly likely OT.

Later, the Packers didn’t fare as well, losing to Jacksonville. It was the first lost in regular season play at Lambeau Field with Brett Favre at QB.

So, here are the scenarios:

GREEN BAY PACKERS

Green Bay has clinched playoff berth.

Green Bay can clinch division title with a win at Minnesota Friday.

MINNESOTA VIKINGS

Minnesota can clinch division title with a win vs. the Packers Friday.

Minnesota can clinch a playoff berth with either a tie vs. the Packers, a Saint Louis loss or tie vs. Philadelphia on Monday or a Carolina loss or tie vs. Tampa Bay Sunday afternoon.

Can’t wait for Friday… Go Pack!!

Green Bay Packers v. Minnesota Vikings

Filed under: Sports — Eric Wisti @ 10:43

Three weeks to play. Minnesota is one game back of the Green Bay Packers.

What will the weekend bring? Next Friday Green Bay travels to the Metrodome to face the Vikings for the second of their two games this season. The Packers won 34-31 a month ago at Lambeau Field in a tight game.

Minnesota is at Detriot this week. Can Minnesota stop the run? They haven’t been able to so far. That seems to be the only way that Detriot can score recently. Harrington has thrown for fewer yards than Jones has run for in the last few games. Can they stop Rogers on offense?

Green Bay plays their final home game at Lambeau this weekend, hosting Jacksonville. Can Leftwich propel the Jaguars past the Pack for their first win in the third meeting?

FOX/NFL Films is also airing a one hour show about Brett Farve on December 24, and again on December 31.
